The Five Agreements
1. We agree to be present to our best degree possible and for that to be good enough (for today).
Notes: We want to honor this agreement, and we also want you to get the most out of the implementation meetings in order to grow as a professional. These meetings are most productive and most useful to practitioners when they come prepared to discuss, and are willing to contribute to the conversation.
2. We will not hold ourselves to the standard of perfectionism, we will simply start with what we can do right now.
Notes: This agreement is especially important for us as professionals. It’s important to remember that all of us are struggling with our own perfectionism and imposter syndrome but we don’t want that to get in the way of you getting the very most out of your experience in this program. We want you to be empowered to get involved in the conversation. If you have a question or a comment, don’t let your perfectionism hold you back. This is a safe space to really get to know the concepts in this course.
3. We agree to personal responsibility - responsible for the energy we bring to the group and responsible for our reactions. There is no space here for blaming others for our problems, our mood, or our reactions. There is no space here for saving others from their problems, mood or reactions. We each agree to be responsible for ourselves, our experiences and our journey.
Notes:
We want to create a positive experience for everyone in this course, a space to practice, question, explore and share our clinical experiences (both positive & negative) without judgment. Our goal for our professional journey is to grow in a safe space that fosters deepening and curiosity.
Since this is a community approach, we agree to receive and provide feedback that is constructive. Knowing that it is offered with the intention to support your integration of the BOT approach and implementation into your practice.
There is a lot of information in this course and it’s normal to feel overwhelmed. We encourage you to use all of the resources that are available to you (connect with others in Mighty Networks, use your somatic tools, revisit course materials, practice titrating your professional journey). Remember that we can only integrate one piece at a time.
If you find you are getting triggered, bring in tools to allow your nervous system to regulate. If materials or conversations are consistently triggering, consider working one-on-one with a somatic or Parts Work practitioner who can gently guide you through.
4. We agree to keep this a safe space for everyone. We do this by staying in the present moment. We agree to stay out of the past and its stories in order to keep this a safe space for everyone.
Notes: For professionals, we know that you may need to provide examples and discuss client cases in order to integrate the concepts that you are learning and we want you to feel comfortable doing this. For the purposes of sharing in these meetings, rather than sharing our clients stories, we want to stay focused on clinically relevant details and explanations that give context to the client cases and examples that we are working with.
5. We agree to take direction from those who are here to guide us.
Notes: the mastery professionals are here to facilitate and guide the discussion. Because your time in the breakout rooms is limited, they may need to call on people or interrupt and we just want to remind you that if that happens, it’s done with the utmost care and support as well as the intention of safely guiding the group through discussion.
